July Is National Hot Dog Month – I’m Celebrating At Wild About Harry’s

In my quest for a fun way to celebrate National Hot Dog Month, I found Wild About Harry’s on Knox Street. What caught my attention? The giant smiling hot dog statue outside, hot pink tables on the patio, and the glowing neon lights lining the windows. There’s even an endearing hand-crafted sign near the door that says, “Y’all come in!”

Now, I don’t eat hot dogs often – we all know what the average hot dog is made from (or do we?) – but what I found when I walked into Wild About Harry’s is that their hot dogs are made from 100 percent lean beef brisket. And just because they’re high-quality doesn’t mean they’re pricey! The average price of a hot dog from Wild About Harry’s is around $4.50 – not bad, considering the amount of wonderful toppings you get. The menu also offers the option of upgrading to a jumbo dog, veggie dog, or polish sausage for only $0.80. After evaluating all these wonderful options, I decided on the “Dallas” Dog – a promising classic at Harry’s topped with mustard, relish, onions and cheese – plus a side of fries and a refreshing fountain drink, of course.

When I sat down to wait on my order, I took some time to bask in the relaxed, eclectic atmosphere of the place. At one table, a group of cops were taking their lunch break together. Some tables were occupied by families with young children, and at other tables, single businesspeople clicked away on their laptops, enjoying delicious hot dogs while they worked. The restaurant is simultaneously laid back and kid-friendly. The inside is just as magical as the outside: walls and tables bursting with color, cool memorabilia all over the place, and… what’s this? They serve custard!

I celebrated National Hot Dog Month with an amazing meal at Wild About Harry’s, and topped it off with a delectable custard sundae (Harry’s Favorite: two scoops of custard, hot fudge, and spanish peanuts). I must say, the experience was perfect – especially on such a warm summer’s day. I’m beginning to understand why National Hot Dog Month takes place in July. But you know what? I may just celebrate the greatness of hot dogs every month. I’ll definitely be stopping by Wild About Harry’s again soon. I’m just wild about it.
